Okay, back to faith. Romans 10:17 says, So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God." Unless we know what God's Word says, we cannot stand, in faith, on that Word.
It is also necessary to understand that, for Christians, faith sometimes comes or gets stronger from situations in life such as tests, trials, hardships, sorrow, etc. Everyone, Christians and non-Christians alike, have problems in their lives. It's what you do with them that counts. Christians can whine and grumble about them or they can believe God's Word and, by faith, overcome them.
Since our message is about faith, let's look at some synonyms for faith. Believe...Trust...Rely...Depend...Comfidence In. I like the way these synonyms happen to line up. Let's look at them.
If we know Him, we will believe in Him...if we believe in Him, we will trust Him...if we trust Him, we will rely on Him...if we rely on Him, we will depend on Him...if we depend on Him, we will have confidence in Him.
There must be a person or object in which to place our faith or trust. The most logical and rewarding person is Jesus. Some people have faith in statues, false religions or themselves. Some place their faith in their church doctrine and whatever prophet is leading them at the time. A person might have faith in friends, TV preachers, a pastor or a spouse. Also a person might receive answered prayer from friends, preachers or spouses. But, all the faith one may have in all these people will not produce what faith in God will produce. One is suppose to have faith in Jesus, no matter who prays.
Again, faith must be placed in the person of Jesus. Is Jesus real to us?? Remember, we read Heb. 11:27 (see Why Faith) which told us Moses forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing Him who is invisible. Do we see Him Who is invisible? Are we willing to give up all to a Jesus Who is invisible? It is a very rewarding thing to do.
Jesus is the living Word, He is all in all, and God went to great length to establish that Word for our redemption.
And you know what? Without faith you will not please God (Heb. 11:6). Faith is the secret that gladdens the heart of God.
When we moan and groan, and grumble about our circumstances. What you are really saying is, "God, You are not taking care of me." You are saying, "God, You are not doing a good job in my life." And, you are not happy with God. The problem with so many is that they don't want God, they just want Him to satisfy their selfish desires of the flesh. He will not do that.
The good part is that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.
We must believe:...
Hebrews, chapter 11 tells us of many people that had fearless faith. How? Was their faith any different than ours? No, their faith was in the Supreme Being that rules all things, as ours should be. Jude 3 tells us we must earnestly contend for this faith.
"The idea is to maintain the original faith of the gospel which was being destroyed by false teachers. Certain men came into the church under false pretences and began to sow discord." (Dake's Annotated Reference Bible)
And you know what? Not one time did these saints.....
THEY BELIEVED GOD.
Many believers have missed God's true message to His people because of the countless false teachers today. False teaching destroys faith. God will not honor faith placed in false teaching. One must believe what God said in His Word. I will close this message with this....
I wish for you the faith to trust the Lord in all things
God Bless You!
