Wake Up Thou That Sleepest

And Arise From The Dead

Wake Up Little Suzie...Wake Up.  This was a song made popular many years ago.  Some of you may remember it.  But I am not talking about "Suzie" waking up in this message.  I want to talk about a subject that, due to so many false preachers and teachers today, seems to be greatly favored in our world.  But while the world sleeps and ignores the truth, this gravely critical situation seems unrestrained.  This gravely critical situation I am talking about is the sleeping and dead Christians in the Church of Jesus Christ in these last days.

First Thessalonians 5:6 says, "Therefore let us not sleep, as do others; but let us watch and be sober."  This implies a carnal indifference to spiritual things on the part of believers.

Mark 13:35-37 says, "Watch ye therefore: for ye know not when the master of the house cometh, at even, or at midnight, or at the cockcrowing, or in the morning:  Lest coming suddenly he find you sleeping.  And what I say unto you I say unto all, Watch."  Again implying a loss of some kind, perhaps our inheritance.

Ephesians 5:14-16 says, "Wherefore he saith, Awake thou that sleepest, and arise from the dead, and Christ shall give thee light.  See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the times, because the days are evil."

First Corinthians 15:34 says, "Awake to righteousness, and sin not; for some have not the knowledge of God: I speak this to your shame."

There's that word "awake" again.  Here we are told some, to their shame, do not have the knowldege of God.

Dead is the actual condition of unsaved people, but asleep and dead both imply the same thing in Scripture, dead to spiritual things.  All these Scriptures tell us that Christian or not, if you are asleep and indifferent to the truth of God's Word, you are in danger of loosing your inheritance.

I want to shout, "Wake up Christian...Wake up." Romans 13:11-14 says, "And that, knowing the times, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed.  The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light.  Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying.  But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof."

This says recognize that the end of time, as we know it, is just around the corner.  It's high time, (none too soon), to wake up, shake off drowsiness, and ask ourselves if we are ready to meet our Lord.  Approaching the end time should be motivation to wake up and start living godly.  I fear multitudes of Christians are listening to false preachers and wallowing in a fleshly gospel.   Romans, chapter 8 tells us that to be carnally minded (fleshly minded) is death.  We certainly don't want to find ourselves in that condition when Jesus comes.

Paul is telling us that the night is far spent, the day to realize our salvation is at hand, therefore, cast off, (get rid of) the works of darkness, put on armor of light (God's Word and ways).  How do we put on armor of light?

1.  Walk honestly, decently and well behaved.

2.  Stop revelling and drinking.

3.  Stop chambering (no more whoredoms, prostitutions or any kind of unclean acts).

4.  Stop all wantoness (no uncleanness or sex perversions of any kind).

5.  Outgrow strife and envying.

6.  Be clothed with Jesus Christ which signifys that the Christian now takes upon themselves His      interests, starts understanding His views and is wholly on His side, imitating Him in all things.

7.  Study God's Word and stop listening to false preachers, teachers and their lying, perverted        gospel.

Do you want to go to Heaven?
THEN
WAKE UP
