Strong Faith Gets Results

Hebrews 11:1 says, "Now faith is the substance (conviction, matter, stuff)of things hoped for, the evidence (assurance or proof) of things not seen."

Faith is being persuaded. Abraham, a human, a person just like me and you, was strong in faith, giving glory to God; and being fully persuaded that, what He had promised, He was able also to perform.

One Old Testament command says, "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding" Prov. 3:5. It's hard sometimes not to depend on our feelings and intellect. Living in a world, as we do, where sight, taste, smell, touch and hearing tell us everything, is far easier than trying to put our trust in an invisible spiritual realm. But God says we must if we want to please Him, therefore, we must grow spiritually and learn how to do this. God had to be trusted by His people in the Old Testament, which were under the law and God has to be trusted by His people in this Dispensation of Grace or the Church Age.

Strong faith must grow so, for those that feel like they only have a small faith, don't be discouraged. Talk to God and read His Word and before long it will grow. Start believing for small things and gradually believe for bigger things and strong faith will come.

The Greek word for faith is "pistis" which means to trust or believe in. The Hebrew word for trust is "batah" and means to confide in, so as to be secure and without fear. To trust with all your heart leaves no room to wonder or doubt. The above Scripture says do not lean, bend, tend toward or incline to our own understanding. This means we look to and trust God in and for everything. It matters not what we see, taste, smell, hear or feel. It matters only what God says. Hence, strong faith, blind faith, God pleasing faith.

Strong faith means our body does not have the final say. Strong faith means our circumstances do not rule us or our actions. God's Word is the deciding factor in our life. To have strong faith we must know what what the whole counsel of God's Word says, not just a Scripture here and there, taken out of context.

Since God's Word is "total truth" and "final authority" faith must be placed in that truth and authority. God will not honor faith placed in something His Word does not say no matter how it is twisted or perverted. We cannot force God to honor our faith just because we want to believe something other than His Word.

Faith is trusting someone you know. To have faith in God, to place the care of our lives in His hands, we must know Him and know Him well. We must accept the fact that He is sovereign and more than capable. How can we place our total trust in a God in which we are content to accept as less than sovereign and One that we think can be forced to bend to our wishes?

Yielding to the Holy Spirit, reading God's Word, fasting, praying and having a desire to please Him will produce strong faith. To be an overcomer takes "extreme" determination. By doing this we will make giant strides toward spiritual maturity.

Faith is unconditionally depending and relying on God and His Word. In Matthew 8 we find a centurion telling Jesus that his servant is laying at home sick of the palsy. Jesus said, "I will come and heal him." The centurion said, "Lord, I am not worthy to have you in my home; and it isn't necessary for you to come. If you will only say, 'Be healed' my servant will get well."

Why did this centurion have so much faith in Jesus? He understood the chain of command established beneath those in authority. He was a soldier who fulfilled orders from his superiors and he had soldiers beneath him who carried out his orders. He had undoubtedly seen or heard about the miracles Jesus was performing and understood that disease, sickness, spirits and the very elements were under Jesus' command. Therefore, he knew all Jesus had to do was speak the Word and whatever He spoke would come to pass.

When we have strong faith, we trust the One in Whom we have this strong faith. Proverbs 29:25 says, ...whoso putteth his trust in the Lord shall be safe." Proverbs 3:5 says, "Trust in the Lord with all thine heart." And Isaiah 26:4 says, "Trust in the Lord for ever: for in the Lord Jehovah is everlasting strength."

As Oswald Chambers says in "My Utmost For His Highest", page 318

Our faith must be built on strong passionate confidence in Him
