Searching and Searching
Would it surprise you to hear people, Christians included, are searching for something, seeking that something that will fill the void in their lives, even though they do not know what they are searching for. Do you know that church going people are not only going to their own church, but are visiting other churches, even outside their own denomination? This is according to a newscast I heard on television. Even those who are suppose to be Christian; those who call themselves by Jesus’ name are trying to find something they find lacking in their lives or hearts. They are looking for something that will really satisfy the hunger in their souls. Those who are not Christian are also looking for the same thing and it is not found in worldly things such as material possessions, money in the bank, successful careers, good times, drugs or alcohol. It seems people’s lives are so full of everything they need, yet there is still that empty feeling deep inside that worldly things cannot fill. We have all tried buying material things. In fact, the world has gone mad for televisions, cell phones, ipods and all the other high tech gadgets to try to fulfill their carnal appetites and it hasn’t worked. Many have tried giving their job or career more time. Others have tried surrounding themselves with friends and the social life. I believe many have tried the drugs and alcohol mentioned above and if they have not ruined their life, have come close because of addictions of one source or another. Yet, people are still searching and searching for that lost something. What could it be? The Bible says in II Corinthians, chapter 4, verse 4 that the god of this world has blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. This is talking about non-Christians, but I believe that many who claim to be Christians have never really been saved according to Scripture. Have we allowed the god of this world, Satan, to blind us? Why? Is it because we are ignorant? Is it stubbornness? Perhaps it is because we want to have spiritual things on our own terms. Do we really expect God to bow to our terms when He has already set down His terms in the Bible? Maybe we just don’t want to bow to a Superior Being or is it we like the messages that cater to our flesh rather than God’s truth. Do we just simply refuse to believe the Bible and think we can find our own way to heaven? After all, there are so many telling us there are many paths to God. Do you really want to gamble with this kind of teaching? First Thessalonians 5:23 tells us we are a three part person. We are a spirit, we live in a body and possess a soul. Therefore, that thing you are looking for is of a spiritual nature. God created each being with a hunger for Himself. We must read His Word called the Bible to learn about Him and His way of salvation. The Bible also tells us there is only one way to heaven, and that way is found in John 14:6 where Jesus said,“…I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.” John, chapter 10 tells us about those who would try to enter heaven some other way. If we do not know what God’s Word says we open ourselves to deception. We cannot know if what we hear preached is true if we cannot search it out in Scripture. No, my friends, what people are searching for is not in worldly things, because it is not physical, but spiritual. The hunger in their hearts is not for anything carnal, but for a Spiritual Being called Jesus. And I find it extremely sad that God’s creation don’t know where to find Him. I don’t know why people are trying to find Him in church buildings. Yes, I believe in going to church, and I have been in churches where the presence of God was so strong it brought tears to the eyes to just walk through the doors. But I have also been in churches where the presence of God was sadly lacking. I have been in lots of churches where people either believe God is present or are pretending God is present, and I found the whole service a farce. There is so much false teaching in the so called Christian establishes today and God will not confirm false teaching with His anointing or power. Do you really want to find God? He is only a breath away. Acts 2:21and Romans 10:13 says, ”And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.” Psalms 50:14&15 says, ”Offer unto God thanksgiving; and pay thy vows unto the most High: and call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.” And Psalms 86:5 says, ”For thou, Lord, art good, and ready to forgive; and plenteous in mercy unto all them that call upon thee.” God has a love for His creation that we cannot understand. He is always waiting for us to talk to Him and adore Him from a heart of love. If you are searching for God, you may not find Him in the churches you are attending. But you will find Him if you call unto Him from a heart of love. Then I ask the question, why are you searching for Him? If your motive for seeking the Lord is selfish then your search may be in vain. But if you are searching for the Lord because you want more of Him, then your search will be successful. Deuteronomy 4:29 says, ”But if from thence thou shalt seek the Lord thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.” Matthew 7:7-8 says, ”Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.”
