The Devil's Cunning Tricks

The Devil Will Deceive Us If We Don't Understand Him

I suppose the devil is the most cunning and deceiving being that has ever been in heaven or on earth. But we can conquer him in our lives if we know how he operates. First we must find out how he attacks us and how to recognize those attacks. We can't defeat an enemy we don't understand or recognize.

The devil has a plan for your life the same as God. He wants to destroy you and your relationship with God. So, let's start by checking out some of his operating techniques.

Excues: That may be the first one he comes at you with.

"And he (Jesus) said unto another, Follow me. But he said, Lord, suffer me first to go and bury my father." Psalm 6:6

This person is telling Jesus, "Yes, I will follow you, but first I have something to do that is more important right now. This is an attack of the enemy. Nothing is more important than following Jesus.

Sometimes we just get weary with our life. Things seem so hard sometimes we just want to give up, but we cannot do that. We have to keep going.

"I am weary with my groaning; all the night make I my bed to swim; I water my couch with my tears." Psalm 6:6

I am weary of my crying: my throat is dried: mine eyes fail while I wait for my God."

"My soul is weary of my life; I will leave my complaint upon myself; I will speak in the bitterness of my soul. Job 10:1

"And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not." Gal. 6:9

Weariness is another attack of the devil and will drag us down if we let it, whereas, doing things for others may keep our lives more interesting.

"The foolishness of man perverteth his way: and his heart fretteth against the Lord. Proverbs 19:3

Sometimes we fret and fret but it does not seem to do any good, therefore, maybe doing some kind of ministry would help.

Difficult circumstances are the things that can cause us to fret, be weary and make excuses. See how clever the devil is?

"Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; 6 And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled." 2 Cor 10:5-6

This is what we must do to defeat our enemy. We must cast down or reject what Satan is putting in our minds about our circumstances. Most likley we have created our circumstances so we must manage to take care of them. Fretting and worry will not help. We should change our way of talking and claim for ourselves what God said in His Word we could have.

"Casting all your care upon him; for he careth for you." ! Peter 5:7

We should go to God and tell Him we want Him to be in control of our lives, because He really does care for us.

A lazy person will never do anything but lay on his or her back side and complain.

"The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour." Prov. 21:25

"I went by the field of the slothful, and by the vineyard of the man void of understanding;" Prov. 24:30

"As the door turneth upon his hinges, so doth the slothful upon his bed." Prov.26:14

"His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:" Matt. 26:14

"That ye be not slothful, but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises." Heb. 6:12

Want to inherit the promises of God then don't let the devil make you lazy. Does he do all these things, Yes, and more. The devil will make you not want to pray.

Stop Praying:

Christians have been taught that praying is begging. Prayer is simply talking to God. And it is okay to ask for somrthing if we have a need, but we need to just go to God and worship Him and simply talk to Him, perhaps about our day, etc. he is interested in everything you do.

"Repent therefore of this thy wickedness, and pray God, if perhaps the thought of thine heart may be forgiven thee." Acts 8:22

"Pray without ceasing." 1 Thess. 5:17

"14Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: 15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him. 16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much." James 5:14-16

This earth is the devil's territory and we must pray much to keep him where he belongs, out of our lives.

"No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon." Matt. 6:24

"And because iniquity shall abound, the love of many shall wax cold." Matt. 24:12

This is one of the reasons the devil stops us from praying. He does not want anyone saved.

"But now, after that ye have known God, or rather are known of God, how turn ye again to the weak and beggarly elements, whereunto ye desire again to be in bondage?" Gal. 4:9

"Nevertheless I have somewhat against thee, because thou hast left thy first love."
Rev. 2:4

"For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind." 2 Tim. 1:7

"So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me." Heb. 13:6

"Fearfulness and trembling are come upon me, and horror hath overwhelmed me." Ps. 55:5

Fear has torment. Many Christians live in fear of one thing or another. The devil is the creator of fear and we should drive him our of our lives in the name of Jesus.

"There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love." 1 John 4:18

"In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee." Isaiah 54:14

Praise God, this is an awesome Scripture. Drive the devil from your life and enjoy God's blessings.

Seeking Riches:

Last but certainly not least is seeking riches. This, of course, is an enormous trick of the devil because everyone, it seems, wants to be rich. People, including many Christians, are just not happy with their lot in life. Let's see what Scripture has to say about this.

"No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon." Matt. 6:24

"But they that will be rich fall into temptation and a snare, and into many foolish and hurtful lusts, which drown men in destruction and perdition." 1 Tim. 6:9

I let you draw your own conclusion.,

15 Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him. 16 For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life, is not of the Father, but is of the world." 1 John 2:15-16

I want to close with one more bit of information. The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life are the three original sins in the Garden of Eden. All the sins in the world today still fall in those same cagegories. When we realize one or more of these in our lives we know the devil is trying to operate in some part of our bodies or lives. Then it is time to get rid of him.

"...., in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us." Romans 8:37
