Do You Walk In Spiritual Darkness?

Do you walk in spiritual darkness because you have denied Jesus? Do you know that time as we know it is quickly passing away. One day soon Jesus will come and take His children (Believers) out of this world. Will you be one of them or are you one that walks in darkness and will be left behind to suffer the consequences?

Over two thousand years ago Jesus, the Son of God, came into this world to redeem all who would repent of their sins and accept Him as Savior and Lord. For those who have loved, worshipped and obeyed Him, His appearing will be the greatest thing that has ever happened to them.

But we are not going to talk about those who are living for Christ in this message. We are going to take a look at those who are living in spiritual darkness. If we go to the Book of Acts in the Bible we find Peter and John, Jesus’ apostles, about to enter the temple, when they are detained by a man who was lame from birth. He did not know Peter and John, he simply wanted alms from them.

Peter said I don’t have any money, but such as I have, give I unto you and he reached out his hand to the lame man and said, “In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.”And he took him by the hand and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. The man was healed and went into the temple with Peter and John.

When the people saw this man leaping and walking they were astonished and when Peter saw this he said, “Why do you people marvel at this miracle or look at us as though we caused this lame man to walk? The God of Abraham, Isaac and Jacob, the God of our fathers, has glorified His Son, Jesus; whom ye delivered up, and denied Him in the presence of Pilate.” All of this is in Acts, Chapter 3, but the Scripture I want us to really take note of is Acts 3:14-15 which says,

  • 14 ”But ye denied the Holy One and the Just, and desired a murderer to be granted unto you; 15 And killed the Prince of life, whom God hath raised from the dead: whereof we are witnesses.”
  • It seems people of all ages have denied or rejected the Holy One (Jesus) and desired the unholy, the immoral and the worldly-minded. As in other generations the same is happening in this generation. Today men and women choose to live in darkness. Why? Well, Scripture says people love darkness more than light because it hides their evil deeds (John 3:19).

We are not talking about day and night. We are talking about spiritual light and spiritual darkness. We are talking about living for Jesus or living for the devil. Let’s read what Scripture says about it in John, chapter 1, verses1-5.

  • 1 ”In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was God. 2 The same was in the beginning with God. 3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made. 4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 5 And the light shineth in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not.”
  • Adam and Eve disobeyed God in the Garden of Eden and were cast out. From then until now, everyone has to survive in a world that is cursed because of their disobedience. Then some four thousand years later Jesus entered the world and He was the light that men needed to come out of spiritual confusion. This great Light that has come into the world cannot and will not ever be put out. But Scripture says that even though light has come into the world, men and women love darkness rather than light because their deeds are evil (John 3:19).

Men and women of today would still rather walk in spiritual darkness. Most of the people of today are happy with the watered down, compromised gospel they hear. Many are happy with false doctrines and false religions that abound today. And many are just happy living with no form of religion at all. Most of these people are still staggering around indulging themselves in the sins of this world, not caring where they will spend eternity. Are you one of these that the Bible says would rather walk in confusion? Of course, if you desire to walk in darkness, that choice is yours.

I see in today’s world a people that have gone mad for carnal pleasures. Never mind that they are headed straight for hell, of course, you cannot tell them they are going to hell, because that is considered a hate crime. The darkness of this world is Satan’s playground. Drugs, alcohol and sex is the name of the game. Even so called churches don’t want the truth of God’s Word, so they have settled for entertainment. It is so easy to deceive people, just give them what they want. So called Christians have allowed teachers and preachers to give them poison in place of the true gospel. When will someone stand up and say, “I will not dwell in spiritual confusion any longer. I will not be afraid to stand up for God’s true light in a world of dark shameful behavior.”

Ecclesiastes 2:14 says, ”…the fool walketh in darkness…”

John 12:35 says, ”…walk while ye have the light, lest darkness come upon you: for he that walketh in darkness knoweth not whither he goeth.”

Isaiah 5:20 says, ”Woe unto them that call evil good, and good evil; that put darkness for light, and light for darkness: that put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter.”

Ephesians 6:12 says, ”For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.”

First John 1:5 says, ”This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all.”

I was thinking about the Lord and this message the other day and I want to share with you what came to me.

We can go in a room that has no windows and shut the door and it becomes very, very dark. In fact, I would say that probably we could not see our hand in front of our face. But if we strike a match, light a candle, turn on a flashlight or flip the light switch, darkness will be eliminated and the room will become light. But we cannot take anything into a lighted room that will eliminate the light.

John 12:46 says, ”I (Jesus) am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness.”

Are you sick and tired of living in spiritual darkness? You can accept Jesus now and begin to walk in spiritual light as you read God’s Word. All you have to do is tell Him you are sorry you have sinned against Him and then ask Him to forgive you and come into your heart and be your Savior and the Lord of your life.
