Beware and Be Watchful

Does anyone ever wonder why God said in His Word to BEWARE?  Is it reasonable then to think we should be alert and take Him at His Word?   If so, then perhaps we should find out just what it is He is warning us about.  When He tells us to beware and watchful then it is for our benefit to search the Scriptures to find out just what we need to be on our guard about.  Okay, let's go to God's Word and see what we can find concerning "Beware and Be Watchful".

When the Lord tells us to beware and watchful, He is very serious about it and we should be also.  First let's go to Acts 20:28-31. Paul is telling believers of his day why they should beware and be watchful.  As Paul is leaving to travel to Jerusalem (verse 22)he says,

"Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood. For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them. Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears."

This is saying preachers take heed how you feed the church of God, which He purchased with His own blood. Paul said after he left there would be grievous wolves creeping into the flock and they would create divisions and strife among the congregation. They would speak perverse, perverted and corrupt words or doctrines so they would get a following. Would it surprise you to discover that many preachers and teachers are doing just that today?

We, in the twenty-first century, are to take this same warning and apply it to our own lives. God has given us warning after warning in His Word about the things that will, not only hurt us spiritually, but could damn our souls to hell (Second Peter 2:1). But we just go happily along, ignoring the warnings and follow the many deceivers that are preaching today.

Paul warned those of his day, and every preacher, teacher or pastor, myself included, should be warning believers about the end time we are facing. That is part of our job as called ministers of God.

Matthew 7: 15 says, "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheeps clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves."

This scritpure follows Matthew 7:13 & 14 which tells us to enter into life (kingdom of God) rather than death, through the strait gate, for wide is the gate and broad is the way that leads us to destruction.  Many or the multitudes follow this destructive way.  The narrow gate is the one that leads to life and Jesus tells us that few even find this gate.  To find this gate one must be following the truth found in God's Word.  Every believer should be following Jesus instead of all the preachers they happen to like.  Get in God's Word and find out what the truth is.

The above scripture talks about false prophets or teachers that come in sheep's clothing, but in truth they are ravening wolves.  This means they will come as counterfeit prophets or teachers. They will come preaching another gospel and another Jesus (2 Cor. 11:4).  They will pretend to be innocent of wrong doing. They will look like a Christian, talk like a Christian and act like a Christian. (see 2 Cor. 11:13-15).  It is so important to BEWARE, BEWARE, BEWARE, FOR YOUR SOUL IS AT RISK.  One of the most important things a believer can learn is to rightly divide the Word of truth; learn what God said in His Word.

We are also told in 2 Tim. 4:3 that the time will come (and I believe that time is now) when Christians will not desire the doctrine of Jesus Christ, but will flock to these false, counterfeit teachers because they sell them a flesh pleasing gospel. (2 Peter 2:3, Col. 2:8, Matt. 7:15).  I know preachers that can prophesy money right out of your pockets and you will love them for doing so.

Another BEWARE is in Luke 12:15 which says, "....Take heed, and beware of covetousness; for a man's life consiseth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth."

Matthew 16:6, 11,12  also tells us to beware.  These scriptures tell us to beware of the leaven of the Pharisees and of the Sadducees.  Why?  Jesus explains that He is speaking not of bread but the doctrines of the Pharisees and Sadducees which is false.  (Also see Mark 8:15 and Luke 12:).

Second Peter warns us to beware lest we are led away by the wicked in the world or in the church and backslide.

And last but certainly not least is Colossians 2:8 which says,

"Beware lest any man spoil you through philosophy and vain deceit, after the tradition of men, after the rudiments of the world, and not after Christ."

I wish for all my readers to read and absorb God's Word so they will know the truth from the false. I, too, say BEWARE for false gospel will lead believers down the wrong path and could cause them to miss heaven.

God Bless You!

"And Jesus answered and said unto them (His disciples), Take heed that no man deceive you. For many shall come in my name, saying, I am Christ; and shall deceive many"

Matthew 24:4-5

This means many will come in these last days proclaiming to be the called ministers of God. Each of us should be careful about who we accept as a spiritual leader and what we read.
